01 — The problem
Healthcare flows have two very different users in one product. A doctor needs a queue and records; a patient needs to book, join and review. The prototype had to serve both without duplicating the whole app.
02 — Approach
- 01
Start with authentication and roles, because every screen downstream depends on who is looking at it.
- 02
Design the doctor dashboard and patient portal as views over the same appointment data.
- 03
Keep the visual system small — a handful of Tailwind patterns reused everywhere.
- 04
Deploy early so the flows could be tried on a phone, not just a laptop.
03 — What I built
- Appointment booking across doctor availability.
- Doctor dashboard for appointments and patient records.
- Patient portal for consultations, prescriptions and history.
- NextAuth-based authentication with JWT and OAuth providers.
04 — Outcome
- A working end-to-end prototype that demonstrates the two-sided flow rather than a set of static screens.
05 — What I learned
Two-sided products live or die on the handoff moment. Designing the booking from the doctor’s queue backwards made the patient side simpler, not harder.
